Do you possess room that may benefit from a ceiling fan Setting up a ceiling fan by yourself is relatively easy, if you are purely replacing a light fixture that is already in the appropriate location. Since a ceiling fan needs the same cabling as your light fixture, the only major thing that really needs to be done is to transfer the workbox that can take on the weight of the ceiling fan. If you dont change the current workbox to something that can handle the weight could spell disaster. Just before you do anything, read the guidelines for your fan very thoroughly and make sure you have the essential tools.

When you find yourself setting up the fan over a cathedral ceiling, you may need to obtain additional parts for extending the fan all the way down lower. When you are ready to install the fan, be sure that the circuit breaker is shut off so you wont get electrocuted. Take out the light fixture, and decide if the workbox that is already there can take on the added weight. Usually they aren't designed for a ceiling fan, so you will want to add more further support. Adding support to the workbox is not that tough if you have admittance to the light fixture from the attic.

All you want to do, is nail a 2x4 between the ceiling rafters, in order that it touches the top of the workbox. Make sure the 2x4 is attached in its place, and then bolt the box to the wood. If you do it the right way, the fan should be effectively supported by the 2x4. If you dont get admission to the attic, you will need to place a cross bracing in your ceiling. This is harder to do, and probably not as safe in the end, but will probably have to do with no attic entry.

So now, after assembling the fan according to the instructions, you are prepared to hang any fan. The difficult part is holding the fan, while joining the wiring. The difficulty is according to the form of fan you have, whether it is a draping frame or a fan that has a bracket with a J hook. Many fans have a chain to control the speed of the fan while the wall switch turns the device on or off. If you choose to also install a light kit with the fan, both can be regulated by either chain or wall switch.

The next task is to go by the wiring instructions which are as basic as connecting two white wires, two black wires and two ground wires. Now all you will need to do is accomplish assembling the fan according to the guidelines, by hanging the fan blades woodworking plans. Immediately after you connect the blades, the only thing left is to change the breaker back on to find out if you did it right.
